Guide · PassQR + iotPush

Get a phone alert every time a pass is scanned

PassQR can push a notification to your phone each time one of your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet passes is scanned. Turn on the iotPush integration in PassQR Settings, enter an iotPush topic, and every scan arrives on your lock screen with the holder's name and the result.

Set it up

  1. 1

    Install iotPush

Create a free account at iotpush.com and install iotPush on your phone: the iotpushr app on iPhone, or iotPush on Android.

  2. 2

    Create a topic

In iotPush, create a topic for your scans, for example passqr-scans, and subscribe your phone to it.

  3. 3

    Turn on the integration

In PassQR, open Dashboard → Settings → IoTPush Integration and switch it to Enabled.

  4. 4

    Enter the topic

Type the topic name. Add your iotPush API key only if the topic is private.

  5. 5

    Save and test

Press Save IoTPush Config, then the test button. A test notification reaches your phone within seconds.

Good uses

  • A gym owner hears about a revoked or expired membership at the door, even when nobody is at the desk.
  • An event organizer watches tickets being scanned from anywhere in the venue.
  • A shop owner gets a ping when a VIP card is used, and can come out to say hello.

Which scans send an alert

Scans checked by PassQR's validator send an alert: the scanner in your PassQR dashboard, the Raspberry Pi scanner, and your own app calling the validate API. Café stamp cards scanned at scan.passqr.com run on a separate counter app and are not covered yet.

iotPush's free plan includes 1 topic and 100 pushes a month, which suits a quiet door. A busier one, or a private topic, needs a paid iotPush plan (iotPush pricing). PassQR also sends the same scan event to your own webhook if you set one in Settings.

One sign-in for both

PassQR and iotPush both sign in with ZapQR, so one passkey or one phone scan opens both dashboards. How ZapQR connects DaSecure products.
